The difference between mlm and affiliate marketing

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Okay so not many people seem to see any difference and see affiliate marketing as a dirty word in comparison because all of these get rich quick, mlm and pyramid schemes.  The things where you pay a nominal fee, recruit others to pay a nominal fee, probably for some useless thing, just to earn commission from selling the product to people who don’t want it, and hope that they can earn from a scheme which ultimately relies on a limitless amount of people, when it is doomed to failure from the start, only guaranteeing the creator of the scheme a profit.

Affiliate marketing on the other hand is quite different, although some of these schemes will try to make out they’re affiliate marketing thus sullying the name further.   Real affiliate marketing, in simple terms is where an individual is a freelance sales person, they do not get paid a salary by a company, but instead increase sales to whatever companies they choose to market by simply creating good quality sites which add value or functionality in some way to encourage further visitors to purchase the products.  They may work through a variety of different methods from pay per click, seo, you get the idea.

What people miss is that affiliate marketing is working to create sales for big name companies, some affiliates even sell through high street shops. They’re not get rich quick schemes, they involve hard work to create a user friendly value adding site which will attract the customer to purchase a product through a trusted site.

I will write more later, busy stuff to do etc, just wanted to get this out there.
